Photos from Seattle

A trip to Washingon state in 2007

These photos were taken in Seattle (Washington, US), in November of 2007. Click here to read the blog entry from the trip.

The obligatory airport photo. I think this was my flight from Montreal to Toronto. A fairly big plane, but not the biggest.

TProphet, my host, taking me on a tour of the MicroSoft corporate campus, where he works. This photo is in one of the larger computer labs, which he is partly responsible for. The lab was absolutely enormous.

Some colorful cabling.

Another of the many hundreds of rows of computers & equipment, showing the cabling connecting the units.

Making some hot chocolate.

Some beverages at MicroSoft. You should never pass up a branding opportunity.

Going to the warehouse to pick up some of the sound system that we'd be using at a party the following night.

A view of the Seattle skyline from the room of the warehouse.

Looking into one of the dumpsters behind the Grand Central Bakery. There were definitely better options for dinner.

Getting burgers and fries at Dick's.

Popping back over to Microsoft to check out the Visitor Center. There is a small museum there which had a bunch of old MicroSoft momentos, such as paper tape rolls that Bill Gates used when programming in the 1970's.

Benches in downtown Seattle. Seattle has a by-law that says that a certain percentage of all construction budgets must be devoted to artistic endeavors.

Safeco Field, where the Seattle Mariners play.

Some colorful bottles of Captain Morgan flavored rums.

Kyle, playing on the drum kit.

Kevin, playing some guitar.

Curtis, with some dried snake, full of potassium. Simply The Best.

Loading gear into Woody's truck, to move it to the party. I was a bit skeptical at first, because this was to be an unadvertised renegade party under a bridge in downtown Seattle. However, the guys who set it up were more organized than most of the professional promoters that I've met. I expected a fairly minimal setup for gear, but they had a three ton truck absolutely full of good sound equipment, enough to run two full-fledged stages.

Kyle and Woody, going over last-minute notes.

Getting the propane heaters set up. We didn't really need them, because it was pretty warm out, but a little extra heat can't hurt.

One of the DJ tables.

Unknown person, TProphet, Pinguino, and Carl.

Dancing around a small fire-pit. I didn't get many good crowd photos because I was working with a sub-standard camera. However, I was surprised that despite no official advertising for the party (they used word-of-mouth), a few hundred people showed up. There was even a small kitchen set up, and a table where people were selling art.

Having a drink after my set.

Moving on to Saturday night, I went on tour with a few people. At this point, I'm having a cold beer at Spike & Eve's apartment. I found a maple leaf going into their building, so being Canadian, I took it with me to use as a coaster.

Jones, Eve, Spike, and Wilx.

After some warmup drinks, we went to a party called Magnetic III at the Pacific Science Center. Here are some of the servers at the bar in the Dinosaur room.

Here are some people mingling in one of the exhibit areas. I was extremely impressed with the whole event, which was organized by Yvette & the other people at Infinite Connections. They set up four stages, running from 10pm to 4am, and guests were allowed to check out exhibits such as the planetarium, the butterfly room, and more. They were also a number of bars and vending booths set up. I think it was the cleanest party that I've ever been too, in a very nice setting.

A lot of guests made an effort to get dressed up for the evening.

Dancers.

TProphet, Tim, and Vudu.

A girl dancing in Cleo's stall.

And Cleo herself.

Dancers at the house music stage.

Talking to one of the DJ's, Skoi Sirius, after the show.

Some energy drinks that I picked up for souveniers.

In Vancouver on Sunday night. Shawn Cole had a pretty nice spread ready for the two of us.

It was pretty late by the time I got into Vancouver, because of delays with my flight, so we decided to take it easy and maybe write a couple of new songs. We decided to have a game of Scrabble while we were getting warmed up, because we figured that we could use a bunch of words from the game in the lyrics.

Getting close to the end of the game. I'm not sure how Shawn managed to sneak "beepy" past me.

The pretzels are almost gone, so we might have to call it a night.

Flying home on Tuesday. Not that I needed another airport photo, but this one is a bit more unique than most, because you can see two of the three Vancouver area ski hills in the mountains behind the plane. Grouse Mountain is behind the clouds to the right of the plane, and Cypress Mountain is the area that you can see behind the tail of the plane.
