DJ Bolivia presents demos by Associate DJ Matt Anaka

Here is some information about Matt and some of his past work, some photos, and also a couple full-length CD mixes that you can download as mp3 demos.

Breakbeats are the envelope, and Matt Anaka loves to push it. While growing up in the greater Halifax area, Matt's earliest musical endeavors were as a drummer, thrashing and screaming his way through countless high energy sets with various punk bands. He easily expanded his horizon to involve electronic music, and now incorporates a similar musical intensity into every set that he plays. Not afraid to mix it up, Matt's style crosses many genres of Breaks. Phat and funky percussive hooks, and even the hard, dirty subtones of Nu Skool breaks keep you wanting more out of this talented new face in the underground community. After only two years behind the 1's and 2's, Matt's strong programming and tight-as-a-nun mixing skills ensure that his name will appear on flyers for years to come. Go forth and spread the word.

"Some people call it brouse, or break-house, but come on, that's lame. Equally lame is the term 'plodstep'. Australians sometimes refer to all Meat Katie records as 'plodstep'. But then Meat Katie himself shows up on their message boards and totally burns them. I got a new record with a Meat Katie remix on it the other day, so while drinking beer and giggling about the whole plodstep episode I recorded a mix of plodstep anthems. Techy electro proggy tracks, all plodding along like there's no tomorrow."

The only way I can think of to describe this is 'melodic bigbeat' - slower in tempo, plently of atmospherics and vocals and some wonky noise. Inspired by a hungover unhappy Tuesday morning.

A mix of some slower funk based stuff that I strung together mostly for my own listening after getting a record order. Lots of horns and what not. The sort of stuff I like to play at the beginning of a night. Recorded February 2005.

Recorded in the summer of 2004, this mix is party breaks through and through, with a shit name that used to be less shit when it was accompanied by a (sort of) witty graphic in which the Atkins Diet logo was bastardized with my last name. Anyways....
